SimCity soundtrack listing

This is a list of all the music tracks to be found in SimCity 3000/Unlimited and 4/Rush Hour, along with some useful additional information for categorization in playlists and other random stuff. Links are to the official SimCity.com downloads, which you must be a registered member to use, or so I remember.

SimCity 4 handily stores its music under [install path]/Radio/Stations in MP3 format. SimCity 3000, unfortunately, uses the proprietary Maxis XA format, but there are converters available on the Internet if you’re willing to do some Googling.

Short note on filenames (this is all purely my speculation):

Some information comes from MusicBrainz. Artist information labeled with a superscripted 1 comes from iTunes Store listings. Corrections and other feedback can be sent via e-mail.

SimCity Theme Jerry Martin 3000 Embedded 1:01 n/a
SimCity 3000 Unlimited Theme Unknown Unlimited Embedded Unknown n/a
The above tracks are the theme songs heard during the introductory movies in each respective version of SimCity 3000.
Window Washer’s Dream Robi Kauker & Kent Jolly1 Both 3kd1.xa 4:59 6,909
SIM Broadway Jerry Martin 3000 3kg2.xa 6:02 8,363
This is the only actual music track that is featured only in SimCity 3000. For unknown reasons, it was completely removed from Unlimited, and cannot be re-enabled as normal background music, unlike with Concrete Jungle. A pity, too; it’s one of my favorites.
Updown Town Jerry Martin Both 3kj1m.xa 3:42 2,564
Turn up the volume and listen carefully, and you just might be able to hear someone laughing near the end.
Night Life Jerry Martin Both 3kj2m.xa 6:28 4,481
South Bridge Kirk Casey1 Both 3kj3m.xa 6:38 4,595
Central Park Sunday Marc Russo1 Both 3kj4m.xa 5:29 3,801
SimCity 3000 Loop Jerry Martin 3000 3kloop.wav 0:11 992
SimCity 3000 Unlimited Loop Unknown Unlimited 3kloop.wav 0:22 1,946
This tune is played over and over again (hence the name loop) while the game is doing busywork, such as loading or saving cities.
Building Jerry Martin Both 3kp1.xa 6:01 8,326
Magic City Jerry Martin Both 3kp2.xa 6:06 8,449
Illumination Jerry Martin Both 3kp3m.xa 7:47 5,387
New Terrain Jerry Martin Both 3kp4.xa 5:41 7,874
The first song you hear after the inception of a new city, hence the name.
Concrete Jungle Jerry Martin Both 3kp5m.xa 7:00 4,847
Only present by default in 3000; see this SC3000.COM Underground article for information on enabling this track in Unlimited.
The Howling Wind Unknown Unlimited 3kse1.xa 6:38 9,187
Sixth Floor Unknown Unlimited 3kse2.xa 4:49 6,685
This was most likely named because Maxis’ headquarters were located on the same level of California Plaza in Walnut Creek, California, before their move to Redwood City near Electronic Arts’ main offices. The name may also be a reference to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, in which Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository.
Desert Sand Unknown Unlimited 3kse3.xa 4:49 6,667
City Lights Unknown Unlimited 3kse4.xa 5:02 6,972

Urban Complex Anna Karney1 Both 3kt3.xa 6:29 8,980
SimCity 2000 Theme Unknown Both sc2kbug.xa Unknown 1,337
Hidden track in both 3000 and Unlimited; see this SC3000.COM Underground article for information on enabling this track.

SimCity 4’s first expansion pack was also named Rush Hour, leading some to believe that the names of further expansions will follow music track names. This would make the second By the Bay; however, it currently appears unlikely that another addition, whatever the name, will be produced.
