Once more, with feeling.
I was getting that itch again.
Version 13.1’s most noticeable deviation from its predecessor is the distinct lack of orange. My friends have noted this to me often enough that I’m beginning to believe that they’re under the illusion that I’m colorblind, a misconception that the previous color scheme could only have reinforced. I did in fact mean to put in some other eye-searing color during prototyping, but neglected to do so and found myself happy with the results. (Thankfully, by the time I started getting suggestions to use hot pink as the background color, I was almost done with the design.)
For this incarnation of Flight 515, I’ve moved from building the site in Movable Type to nanoc, a static site compiler written in Ruby. Considering that this is a single-author blog that doesn’t allow comments, firing up a server-based application to make changes seems like massive overkill. Most of the underlying markup has also been converted to HTML5. A couple of pages even come with additional microdata — reviews, for instance, are now annotated with rating information in an attempt to suck up to Google.
Now that all this is done, maybe I’ll get around to finishing a few more actual entries. That review of Canaan that I started fifteen months ago and subsequently forgot about looks like a good place to start….
